The Cotton bollworm, Helicoverpa zea, and the tobacco budworm, Heliothis virescens, continue to be among the most devastating pests of cottonin the United States. In 1998, bollworm/budworm caused yield reduction of 2.71 % resulting in a cost to U.S. cotton growers of over $250 million.
